The history of our house

Hotel Christina - Achensee's kleinstes 4Sterne Hotel

From a simple guesthouse to Achensee 's smallest 4 star hotel

For more than three generations my whole family has been dedicated to hotels and the hospitality of holiday guests in Pertisau.

My grandfather bought the present-day Hotel Rieser in 1933 – at that time it was a farm. He was one of the pioneers in Pertisau’s hotel business and bequeathed each of his three sons a house. My father, Adolf Rieser was the youngest at the age of 17 and took over the Villa Rieser -today's Hotel Kristall.

With great passion, personal commitment and a lot of courage for change we have always worked together to improve ourselves and our services, to make the Tyrolean hospitality known beyond limits.

As the third of six children my path was already marked. I was only 8 years old and I could not wait to attend the prestigious Hotel Management School, ‘Villa Blanka’ in Innsbruck.
My father had to explain to me, that, at 8 years old, I was too young to attend this school, but he promised me that I would later be the boss of "Christina". For me, this was my greatest motivation.

The making of "Christina"

Year 1969: A new challenge

In search of a new challenge and because he thought, that a house at the lake would be a investment, my father bought the small guesthouse Singer with simple guest rooms and renamed it Cafe Christina . When asked, “Why Christina?" he always replied with a smile, I am not quite sure, but I think that a girl named Christina might have left a permanent impression on him.

The purchase price was 1.4 million shillings - that was a lot of money at that time - but only equivalent to a present value of € 101,741.00.

The small "Christina" was developed, an ideal location directly on the beautiful Lake Achensee, which was fast becoming a popular tourist destination, where one could sit at the lake in the sun, and enjoy a coffee and gorgeous, exclusively home-made Tyrolean pies, cakes and strudels.
We completely remodeled the kitchen and opened our own cake shop. Our small company has made a name in its short life for sweet creations in our region.

In year 1974: May it be a little bit more?

The Tyrolean cuisine has more to offer than just cakes. So we furnished the “red bar” in the restaurant area – to create a small cosy room. From now on guests from our hotel, as well as guests from the town could enjoy this place. They enjoyed time chatting, sampling  traditional delicacies and of course good wine from our cellar.

In year 1979: More space and comfort for our guests

Demand grew steadily and soon it became clear: we needed more rooms! The complete "Christina" was hollowed out and redesigned so that 25 guests could be comfortably accommodated to enjoy a lovely relaxing holiday at the enchanting Lake Achensee.

In year 1995: The next generation is launched

Hotel Christina nach dem Umbau 2001 Sometimes it is not enough, just to renovate. So without further ado, the “old" Christina – was demolished and rebuilt in just 3 ½ months – with the exception of the kitchen and the restaurant.  The house now has over 15 modern and luxurious rooms with a total of 30 beds. The kitchen and the restaurant were also completely extended and modernised. We also expanded our range of services for the guests.
The result was the " smallest **** hotel at Lake Achensee " – Since then, our hotel has been officially categorised year by year with 4 stars.

2002 and Jahr 2004: Family Growth Hotel Christina - Herzlichkeit am Achensee

My two daughters, Madeleine and Julia were born and they give me a lot of joy every day.
They already take their role as future hotel owners seriously. In their spare time they sometimes help in the restaurant and also welcome our guests at the weekly reception.

Ever since there have been ongoing improvements in order to offer our guests more comfort: From bathrobes, to mini fridges in the rooms, hiking and walking sticks, stuffed backpacks for enchanting walks - no desire in Achensees smallest **** Hotel " Christina " remains unfulfilled.

In year 2005: Renovation of our spa area

The demand for spa services is steadily increasing, so we have made a few improvements in order to be able to offer our guests a more comfortable atmosphere, including the newly designed massage- and vital-bathrooms with a soothing ambiance.

In year 2012: Reconstruction and enlargement of the sun terrace

Cafe und Sonnenterrasse im Hotel Christina PertisauIn order to be able to offer our guests a free and more beautiful view to the scenery surrounding Lake Achensee, we demolished the small souvenir shop outside the hotel and extended our idyllic sun terrace. With this modification, more car parking places for our guests are also available.

The beautiful surroundings of the clear and sparkling Lake Achensee with the Rofan and Karwendel mountains our God-given – but our job is to ensure that you enjoy a fun-filled holiday with every comfort. We accept this challenge with love and passion.

We do not wish to be “stuck in the past”, so we will always continue to build, rebuild and improve for you!
